 Often considered the birthplace of the offshore finance industry, Curacao has become a well-regarded centre for international corporate tax planning, often in conjunction with structures formed in The Netherlands.
Curacao lies off the north Venezuelan coast and, besides being the seat of the government of The Netherlands Antilles, is an important economic force in the region with its own large container port. The area is part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, which is responsible for its foreign and defence relations, and its legal system is based on the Dutch system.
