Since 1997 Hong Kong has been a Self-Administered Region (SAR) in the People's Republic of China and continues as an independent city economy on China's doorstep under the principle of One Country, Two Systems.
Hong Kong's free market policies are a magnet for international businesses large and small. A simple, low- tax regime, an excellent regulatory framework and the rule of law upheld by an independent judiciary are important factors in attracting and retaining businesses from all corners of the globe. More than 2,400 international corporations have chosen to base their regional headquarters in the territory.
